Customize placeholder and bracket output

Desktop Settings can change how dotScribe writes placeholder and bracket markers when it inserts a phrase.

Change placeholder output

  1. Open the dotScribe menu.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Find Placeholder Output.
  4. Choose ***, [ ], or _.

Change bracket output

  1. In Settings, find Brackets Output.
  2. Choose { }, [ ], or ( ).

dotScribe uses these preferences when it converts supported placeholder and bracket markers in a phrase before insertion.

What these settings do not do

These controls change the text markers that dotScribe inserts. They do not add an EHR-independent field-jump key or a dropdown menu for choosing clinical options inside a phrase.

If your EHR has its own placeholder-navigation behavior, use the marker format that works best with that application. If you need reusable selectable alternatives, keep them as separate reviewed phrases or edit the inserted text before use.
